Dom was born and resided in New Orleans until he moved to Covington 12 years ago. He attended St. Aloysius, upon completion of seventh grade in 1936; he attended St. Joseph Seminary College from 1936 to 1942. He then entered the U. S. Army and served from 1943 – 1946. Upon returning from the military, he attended Loyola University, where he received his Juris Doctorate in 1951. Upon receiving his Juris Doctorate, he entered private practice until 1964, when he was elected First City Court Judge where he served continuously for 35 years. Upon retirement he was Chief Judge and the longest sitting judge in the State of Louisiana. Judge Grieshaber was known as the “Marrying Judge” and performed thousands of weddings, including singer, Marvin Gaye, actor, Stacy Keach, Al Copeland, and performed weddings at The World’s Fair Gondola, Marie Laveau’s Tomb, Bultman Funeral Home and many other New Orleans venues. He was a member of New Orleans Spring Fiesta, Camellia Club of New Orleans, Young Men’s Business Club, South Claiborne Avenue Business Men’s Association, New Orleans Ballet Foundation, Exchange Club of the Vieux Carre, Knights of Columbus DeLaSalle Council, American Legion Post 307, Greater New Orleans Italian Cultural Society, several carnival organizations, and King of Caliphs of Cairo in 1965. Preceded in death by his parents, George and Jennie Carra Grieshaber and his uncle, Rev. Monsignor Raymond Carra, he is survived by his beloved wife of 63 years, Inez Perrier Grieshaber; nine children, Dom Carra Grieshaber, Jr., Robyn Ann Grieshaber, David George Grieshaber (Kathleen), Christopher Lee Grieshaber (Paula), William James Grieshaber (Jayne), Ann Marie Grieshaber Serpas, Gretchen Ann Grieshaber Sagona (Beau), Michael John Grieshaber, and Lee Perrier Grieshaber (Mary); daughter-in-law Susan Brands Grieshaber; 14 grandchildren and 8 great-grandchildren and two sisters, Agatha Grieshaber Schoen and Josephine Grieshaber Wagner. Visitation will be from 5 – 9 p.m. today at Jacob Schoen and Son Funeral Home, 3827 Canal Street, New Orleans. The funeral Mass will be celebrated at noon tomorrow at St. Benedict Catholic Church, 20370 Smith Rd., Covington, with visitation at the church beginning at 10 a.m. Interment will be in St. Joseph Abbey Cemetery, St. Benedict. ===================
