Beloved husband of Beverly Braud Murphy for 55 years. Loving and devoted father of Mary Strassel (L.J.), Michael Murphy (Penny), Erin Deen (Griffin), Nancy Bernard (Scott), Timothy Murphy and Laurie Murphy. Loving Pops of Rachel Strassel, Ryan and Sean Murphy, Alex and Griffin Deen III, Bonnie Bernard, Raymond and Robyn Murphy and Matthew Adaire. Brother of Kenneth Murphy (Marianne) and brother-in-law of Jeanne Braud Foret (Felix). Also survived by many dear and wonderful friends. Born in New Orleans, LA in 1935 and a resident of Covington, LA for the past 8 years. He was the son of the late Alfred Thomas Murphy and Albertine D’Antoni. Al attended Incarnate Word Grammar School and St. Aloysius High School where he was a proud member of both schools’ alumni. He served three years as Sergeant 1st Class in the 141st Field Artillery Battalion of the National Guard. He retired from the Kansas City Southern Railroad after 42 years of dedicated and loyal service. He gave his time selflessly to St. Benilde Parish where he served as a member of the Holy Name Society and the Men’s Club. He also was a lector, choir member and CYO coach. He was a recipient of the Archdiocese of New Orleans Order of the St. Louise de Marillac Medal. He was also a member of the Kiwanis Club of Greater Covington and a parishioner of St. Jane de Chantal Catholic Church. He generously supported numerous charities and organizations. “Big Al” loved to cruise and travel with his wife, family and friends. He was proud of his Irish and Italian heritages. He loved watching golf, baseball and hockey. He never met a shrimp poboy, slice of pizza or a doughnut he didn’t love. He will be dearly missed by all of those who loved him. Relatives and friends of the family are invited to attend the funeral mass from St. Joseph Abbey, 75376 River Road, St. Benedict, LA 70457 on Tuesday, March 27, 2012 at 2:00 PM. Visitation at E.J. Fielding Funeral Home Inc., 2260 W. 21st. Ave., Covington, LA 70433 on Tuesday from 12:30 PM until 1:30 PM. Interment in St. Joseph Abbey Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, Masses preferred or donations in Alfred’s memory to the Lewy Body Dementia Association, 912 Killian Hill Road SW, Lilburn, GA ===================
