Derbins, 87, of Mandeville passed away Saturday, April 7, 2012. He was born in New Orleans, the son of the late Arthur Derbins and Charlotte Wooley Derbins. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife of 60 years, Lila Virginia Carnes; his brother, Arthur Derbins, Jr., and his sister Patricia Ann Schulingkamp. He is survived by his four children, William L. Derbins (Martha Ebrecht), Dennis Derbins ( Diane Derbins),Cliff Derbins (Sharon Murphy); Patricia Derbins Staffeld and (Christopher Staffeld); five grandchildren, Peter Derbins (Katie), Philip, Pamela, Erin and Christine and two step grandchildren Ryan and Rachel Staffeld. Bill served as a pilot in the U. S. Naval Air Corps during World War II. In 1948, he graduated from LSU where he met his wife. He then began his career at the Times Picayune Publishing Co. He later moved to the pharmaceutical industry, holding sales and marketing management positions leading to Marketing Vice President at Warner Lambert. He also served as Marketing Vice President for Parker Pen Company in Janesville, Wis. In the 1970’s, he moved back to New Orleans and started an advertising business, which he operated until his retirement in 1987. Bill was best known as a gifted, highly creative painter and sculptor. In his retirement he was active in the local arts and taught painting classes for over 20 years. He was an early supporter of the National D-Day Museum in New Orleans. He was active in S.C.O. R. E., a community service organization dedicated to helping people get started in business. A private memorial service will be held by the family.
