Please go to http://usgwarchives.net/la/sttammany/obits/dateobits/2012/st1204.htm and click to view list of photos. ========== U.S. Veteran CHARLEY “CHUCK” MARCUSSEN, age 92 years, retired Director of Marketing at the Outboard Marine Corporation Stern Drive Division, died on Thursday, April 26, 2012. He was born in Aarhus, Denmark and was the son of the late Hans Nicolaus Siegfred Marcussen and Margrethe Andersen. Charley was a graduate of the U.S. Maritime Service Training Station in Sheepshead Bay, New York. From 1935 to 1938 he served in the U.S. 105th Calvary, Troop F in Wisconsin. During WWII he sailed as Master aboard several U.S. Army freight and supply ships, including “114”, “118” and “289”, and the “Clarence M. Condon”. Charley started with Evinrude Motors in 1950 as a sales trainee and was assigned a territory. He soon rose to the rank of district sales manager and was named regional sales manager in 1961. As regional sales manager, he supervised the activities of nine district sales managers located in the southeastern and min eastern part of the country. He later became the Marketing Director for OMC Stern Drive. He was a principal in OMC Stern Drive’s first 16mm film, “The Guides Have It”, which won a “Teddy Award” for first place at the 15th Annual National Outdoor- Travel Film Awards. He led the 19 day springtime fishing odyssey to Puget Sound, Washington; Hilton Head, S.C.; Grand Isle, La. and for fishing off Lake Michigan in Chicago and Kenosha, Wisconsin. Throughout his career, Charley was affiliated and featured in many boating publications such as “Docklines”, “Boat and Motor Dealer”, “U.S. News and World Report”, “Sports Illustrated”, “Signals”, “Motorboat” and “Marex”. His love of flying put him behind the controls of more than 20 aircraft and logging well over 1000 hours. He built a “Petenpol” aircraft in his backyard shop. When he could no longer fly engine driven planes due to medical reasons he took up soaring in Gliders. In the Slidell Sentry-News in 1993, he was quoted as saying, “I have truly loved my life. This world is so full of wonderful things. If you can’t find something to make you content, you haven’t looked. I even enjoy my life when I sit on my porch and watch a thunderstorm over the bayou.” Beloved Husband for the past 30 years of Helen “Bunny” Goff Marcussen and by the first marriage to the late Nancy Jane White Marcussen. Father of Christine E. M. Febles, Charley Marcussen, Jr.(Jackie Dabdoub), Charles A. Ploegsma(Patricia McIntosh) and the late Nelson E. Marcussen. Brother of Greta M. LeyKauf. Grandfather of Celeste Marcussen Hart, Erik S. Febles, Nelson E. Marcussen, Jr., Carl D. Marcussen, Charles D. Marcussen, Jason L. Marcussen, Christopher A. Ploegsma, Angela R. Thompson, the late Damon W. Marcussen and Luis A. Febles. Great grandfather of Alexis R., Will H., Beau D., Amber Hart, Erik L. Febles, Nelson E., III, Angel M., Christopher C. Marcussen, Credence, Purity Ploegsma, Maya Thompson, Summer, Olivia, Blake and Melissa Marcussen. Relatives and friends of the family are invited to attend the Funeral Services at HONAKER FUNERAL HOME, 1751 GAUSE Blvd. WEST (IN FOREST LAWN CEMETERY), Slidell, LA on Monday, April 30, 2012 at 11:00 A.M. Rev. Paul O. Dabdoub, officiating. Interment will be private. Visitation on Monday morning after 9:00 A.M. until funeral time.
