He was preceded in death by his parents, Hazel and Ivy Pounds, and by his loving wife of 60 years, Dimple Dee Pounds. He is survived by three sons, eight grandchildren, and five great- grandchildren: Milton Pounds, wife Gayle, children Jason (Michelle, daughter Emilia), and John (Reve, son Thomas); Alan Pounds, wife Cyd, children Chadwick Graham (Emily, children: Jacob, Evan and Maggie), Elizabeth, Mattlan, and Donivan; Jerry Pounds, wife Bayne, children Rebecca George (Christian) and Jerry, Jr. (Hannah)and one sister: Peggy Pounds Teel. He was born in New Orleans, April 3, 1924, and graduated from Fortier High School. While a student at L.S.U., he enlisted in the U.S. Army and received a commission as 2nd Lieutenant of Infantry. Serving in combat in WWII, he commanded an Anti Tank platoon of 57mm cannon in the 63rd Infantry Division during the Ardennes-Alsace, Central European and Rhineland Campaigns. He returned to L.S.U. to receive a Degree in Animal Science and then Graduated in the first class of the School of Veterinary Medicine at Oklahoma A&M (Oklahoma State University). Returning to New Orleans, his clinic, Pounds Veterinary Hospital, was the second building on Veterans Blvd between Bonnabell and Green Acres. He practiced Veterinary medicine for 28 years and he was a member of the American Veterinary Medical Association and a past president of the Louisiana Veterinary Medical Association. He was a 32nd Degree Freemason and a deacon of the First Baptist Church, New Orleans. After retiring he moved to McComb, MS and then to Covington, LA in 1992. Relatives and friends of the family are invited to attend funeral services at 11:00 AM on Thursday, April 5, 2012 at E.J. Fielding Funeral Home, 2260 W. 21st Ave. Covington, LA 70433. Visiting hours will begin Thursday at 9:00 AM. Interment at Pinecrest Memorial Gardens will immediately follow services. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be sent to the Louisiana Baptist Children’s Home which Dr. and Mrs. Pounds supported for many years ===================
