She and her husband, Curtis L. Sessions resided in Kingwood for 26 years. She chose to leave a legacy of education and research for future generations through anatomical donation with University of Texas Health Science Center. She was born in Goldthwaite, Texas April 15, 1934 to Arthur Louis Bird and Nora Elzada Deere Bird. The family moved to Levelland, Texas where she graduated from Levelland High School. Vermelle and Curtis married in 1953 in Levelland and immediately moved to Starkville, Miss. She worked at the local hospital and Mississippi State University as a secretary, while helping Curtis study and graduate as a geologist. The couple and their child, Curtissa, then moved to east Texas where Curtis was employed by Humble Oil and Refining Company (ExxonMobil). The young family grew with two sons, Steve and Jeff. Vermelle will be remembered for her love of her family and friends. She enjoyed people, made friends easily, and genuinely took interest in them. She especially loved to follow her childrens’ and grandchildren’s activities. She was an excellent homemaker. She was also employed in Tyler, Texas as an income tax preparer and advisor and continued this work from her home after moving to Metairie. She also worked as a real estate agent in Lafayette. She loved to travel, especially to see her family. She loved to read – especially novels and the newspaper. After reading the paper everyday from cover to cover, she would complete the crossword puzzle, “to keep my mind sharp!” She was an excellent organizer both in the home and in the groups she was part of, whether it was church, working on election days at the polls, keeping records for an investment club in Kingwood, being a delegate to Texas State Republican Convention, and the Kingwood Newcomers Club. She is survived by her husband, Curtis; daughter, Curtissa Sessions Boyer and her husband, Randall K. Boyer; daughter-in-law, Vickie Andrus Sessions; son, Jeffrey K. Sessions and his wife, Hilda Herrera Sessions; grandchildren, Kathryn Leah Boyer, Molly Ann Boyer, Jason Stephen Sessions, Andi Leigh Sessions, Deborah Herrera and her children, C.J. and Destiny Herrera. She is also survived by her sister, Lou Carter and her husband Les. Vermelle was preceded in death by her father, mother and brother, Louis Bird. A memorial service was held today at Rosewood Funeral Home, Porter, Kingwood, Texas. Donations may be made to Pulmonary Fibrosis Association of Texas, Inc., 1442 Charles Bird and son, John Stephen Sessions. ===================
