ELSIE “MICKEY” MELANCON ABNEY, passed away at her home surrounded by her loving 
family on Tuesday, May 22, 2012. 

She was a native of Paulina, LA, a former resident of New Orleans, LA for 46 
years and a resident of Slidell, LA for 25 years.

Beloved Wife of the late Melvin R. Abney, Sr.
Mother of James R. “Butch” Abney, Ronald J. Abney, Daniel P. “Danny” Abney 
(Pam), Carol A. Chambers (Stanley), Margaret A. Schiro and Diane A. Salles 
(Rodney). Step-mother of Melvin R. Abney, Jr (Pauline).
Daughter of the late Walter J. and Olympe Vicknair Melancon.
Sister of Antoine Melancon, Delia M. Lambert, Julia M. White, the late O’Neal, 
Louis, Clarence, George, Numa, Lloyd, Floyd, Walter Melancon and Elia M. 
Lambert.
Grandmother of 15 and great grandmother of 11 and great great grandmother of 4.

She was retired from D.H. Holmes.

Relatives and friends of the family are invited to attend the Funeral Mass at 
HONAKER FUNERAL HOME, 1751 GAUSE Blvd. WEST (IN FOREST LAWN CEMETERY), Slidell, 
LA on Friday, May 25, 2012 at 12:00pm. Visitation will be from 10:00am until 
12:00pm. 
Interment will follow in Forest Lawn Cemetery. 

Donations to St. Joseph Hospice, 19500 Helenburg Dr., Covington, LA 70433 is 
preferred in lieu of flowers.
