Vernon, Ala., passed away at home on Monday, April 30, 2012, in Slidell. He was 74. He was the beloved husband of Jeanette Barnett for 50 years; father of Joseph, Jon, Jack (Tammy) and Merryanne Welch (Larry); and son of the late Wilbur and Ida B. Barnett. He is also survived by 12 grandchildren; six great- grandchildren; three sisters, Yvonne Necaise (Jimmy), Eileen Brown (Kent) and Angie Balzil; and numerous nieces and nephews. Barnett served his country in the U.S. Army Special Forces during the Vietnam War. He was a retired construction superintendent. His retirement years were spent volunteering countless hours with local churches after Hurricane Katrina and bringing smiles to numerous members of Cross Gates Family Fitness. The family would like to thank Slidell Memorial Hospital, Dr. Matthew McElveen, Omni Home Health and St. Joseph Hospice for all the love and support throught this most difficult time. A memorial service was held Wednesday at Northshore Church, 310 Kensington Blvd., Slidell. Arrangements by Honaker Funeral Home, Inc., Slidell. ===================
