He is survived by his wife Maria Luisa, his three daughters, Leila Rodriguez, Karla Cochran and Michelle Abdo. Three sons-in-law Juan Carlos Rodriguez, Charles Cochran and Asafft Abdo. Grandfather of Gian-Carlo Hernandez, Stefan Hernandez, Alexandra Abdo, David Rodriguez and Renzo Cochran. Devoted brother of Hugo, Rony, Jorge, Tony, Roberto, Rene, Allan, Connie, Roxi, Judy, Janet and Sandra. Jimmy's life would seem short to many but those who met him and were touched by him understood that quality far exceeds the quantity of time in which one lives. His love of God, his devotion to his family, and his passion were reflected in everything he did, inspiring all those around him, even those who met him briefly. He was proud of his Hispanic Heritage and culture and could be heard saying "Español!" to his children and grandchildren when speaking to him. He loved to dance and a party's success could only be rated by the number of pushups he did on the dance floor. He loved football and soccer and was a die hard Saints fan and proud member of the Who Dat Nation. His commitment and devotion to the sport won him a scholarship to Tulane University where he was the first soccer style place kicker. He led the team to the Liberty Bowl with a winning 54 yard field goal, which he was not shy to remind people of. This was a proud accomplishment as well as finishing his studies in Civil Engineering, a Masters, and other post grad work in his field. His work was also his passion, evidenced by the high regard for him in his field as Civil Engineer. Some of his proudest accomplishments were working for the US Government in the Agency of International Development in Honduras and Guatemala and in local projects that can be seen around New Orleans and on some of the city's landmarks. He could see beauty in a parking lot and drainage system that many of us would not understand. His illness weakened his body but after a lifetime of believing and living the motto of "the body is the temple of the holy spirit" a physical body could not have been more prepared for this battle. Everything he loved, everything he believed, the pride in his culture, he left engraved in the life of his grandchildren who were his heart, pride, and joy. So much so, that he stood his post until he met his youngest grandson and namesake. With his wife of 39 years, they lived the testimony of service in the church, through their ministry preparing over 89 couples to be married in the Catholic Church, while devoting their time to countless organizations, committees, and causes in the Hispanic Catholic Charismatic Community. If asked to sum up his entire life in two words, Jimmy would proudly say "Amen, Amor" (Let God's will be done, my love). The family would like to add a heartfelt thank you to the entire staff of Touro Infirmary who for the past year went above and beyond to provide love, care and support. Relatives and friends of the family are invited to attend a Mass of Christian Burial at St. Jerome Catholic Church, Kenner on Saturday, May 19 at 12:00 noon. Visitation at the church on Saturday from 10:00 am until Mass time. The interment will follow at Garden of Memories Cemetery, Airline Dr., Metairie. ===================
