Ever true to the above, Pete Williamson, age 89, died at Christwood Retirement Community on May 29, 2012. He is survived by his wife of 21 years, Annette Ruckstuhl Doskey Williamson, his children and their spouses: Leslie and Jim Cogan of San Angelo, Tx., Steve and Kerma Williamson of Pleasant View, Ut., Beth and David Brewster of Madisonville, La., Scott Williamson of Covington, La., nine grandchildren, and one great grandchild. Pete also spent many enjoyable hours with Annette’s children and their spouses and children: Gus and Maria Doskey of Dallas, Tx., and Dwight and Nancy (Wagner) Doskey, Maurer and Michiel van Voorthuysen, Gina and Muldrow Etheredge, all of Covington, La., and their nine grandchildren. Pete was preceded in death by his first wife Virginia Caryl Williamson (d. 1979), son Paul B. Williamson, Jr. (d. 1994), and three brothers. Pete was born and raised in Pine Bluff, Arkansas. He enlisted in the US Navy after the Japanese attack on Pearl Harbor and served for four years. A high score on a math aptitude test given by the Navy resulted in Pete’s enrollment at the Rice Institute in Houston, where he studied for two years. He subsequently transferred to SMU, obtaining a BS and Master’s degree in Geology. He spent his entire career as a petroleum geologist working for Chevron, retiring in 1985. He lived in Covington from 1972 until his death. Pete was an avid reader, fisherman, crossword puzzle enthusiast, and naturalist. He could identify every bird, plant, tree, snake, rock, and so on, on this earth. He and Annette, often with their friend, Maryjane Dodd, traveled to three continents over the years. Yet no matter where he journeyed, he loved returning home where he fed up to two dozen raccoons and an occasional opossum nightly, countless hummingbirds, and a few beloved cats. Funeral services will be held at the E. J. Fielding Funeral Home, 2260 W. 21st Ave. Covington, LA 70433, on Saturday, June 2, 2012 at 11:00 A.M. with visitation at 9:00 A.M. The family requests that any donations in Pete’s memory be directed to a wildlife preservation charity or to the Alzheimer’s Association.
