The native of Meridian, Miss., and a Slidell resident was a Slidell High School retired teacher and co-owner of Driving Academy of Slidell. Merritt also as an Air Force Veteran of the Korean War, joined the Army after the Korean War and was honorably discharged as a second lieutenant. He received a bacelor’s degree in biology and master’s degree in traffic safety from the University of Southern Mississippi. He is survived by his wife, Anna Merle Merritt; sister-in-law, Carolyn Leggett Lang; four sisters, Sally Robertson Brown, Virginia Merritt Williams, Myra Merritt Mabry and Beckie Robertson Berry and numerous nieces and nephews. A memorial service will be held at First Christian Church in Meridian, Miss., and a celebration of his life will be held in Atlanta. ===================
