A native of New Orleans, Raymond worked as a mechanical engineer for the New Orleans Sewerage and Water Board, and served as a sergeant in the United States Air Force during the Korean War. During his 37 years of service at the Sewerage and Water Board, Raymond was involved in the design of some of the world’s largest pumps and impellers ever built. Those same systems remain in use to this day in New Orleans. He was a visionary, and all who knew him understand that his talents rested in his attention to detail and constant quest for perfection. In addition to his work with the Sewerage and Water Board, Raymond assisted his late wife, Antonina “Nina” Mistich in operating her beauty salon businesses. Her shops operated continuously for over 45 years under his supervision. Raymond was known as “Pippy” to his friends and family, this name affectionately given to him because of his open need for all things to be in their correct place, all the way down to the crease of his pants. When grandchildren came around, he was given the name Nanu. This name did not stop with his grandchildren, however. Raymond was so heavily involved in the lives of his grandchildren that even their friends began to refer to him as Nanu when they saw him. Raymond loved life, and made sure to live every moment of his to the fullest. He worked out every morning at the gym, and made his rounds every weekend to all of his children’s homes just to spend some time with them and his grandchildren. He will be deeply missed by all those who were fortunate enough to have had their lives touched by him. Raymond was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Antonina Paternostro Mistich and his three brothers, Merlyn, Maurice, and Joseph. He is survived by his fiancée, Patricia Durio; his four children and their spouses, Raymond and wife Janiece, Kathleen, Marlene, Joseph and wife Sandra; his grandchildren and their spouses: Jeffery and wife Alex, Craig, Thomas, Christine and husband Scott, Mark, Paul, Blake, Russell and wife Heather, Tipper and fiancée Christina, Nina, Bradley, Elizabeth, Bryn, Joey, Zachary, and Cy; and three great-grandchildren: Paul, Alyssa, and Maya. Relatives and friends are invited to attend a Mass of Christian Burial on Monday, June 18, 2012 at 11:00 am at St. Anselm Catholic Church, Madisonville, LA. Visitation at the church from 9:30 until Mass time. Internment immediately following at Greenwood Cemetery, New Orleans. In lieu of flowers, masses or donations to Most Holy Trinity Catholic Church’s Building Fund in Covington would be appreciated (attention Fr. Rodney Bourg). Arrangements entrusted to Serenity Funeral Home, Covington, LA. ===================
