He was born in New Orleans and a lifelong St. Bernard Parish resident until moving to Mandeville after Hurricane Katrina. He was the beloved husband and best friend of Patricia Gray Neal; loving father of Ryan P. Neal (Kimberly), Jamie N. Hattier (the late Duane), Kristen N. Essaied (Anthony), Brian M. Armitage and Jason M. Armitage (Heather); loving grandfather (Ronnie) to Kaylee and Madison Armitage, William and Sara Hattier, Noah Neal and Cooper Essaied; brother of Terry Neal (Pat), David Neal (Jeanette), Gary Neal (Terrie) and twin brother, Donnie Neal, and a wonderful son-in-law to Mary B. Gray and the late Ray J. Gray Sr. He is preceded in death by his parents, Daniel C. and Margaret Smith Neal, and will will be sadly missed by a host of brother-in-laws, sister-in-laws, nieces, nephews, great nieces, great nephews, cousins and lifelong friends. Neal, a St. Bernard Parish Government employee for the past 11 years, was an Entergy retiree and co-founder of Quality Independent Service Coordinators of LA, Inc. He was Lake Borgne Basin Levee Board vice president from 1983 to 1997, St. Bernard Parish Referee Association founder and first president and a St. Bernard Sports Hall of Fame board member. Neal was a very passionate person who lived life to the fullest and touched the lives of everyone he met. He loved entertaining family and friends with his great barbecues. He was an avid sports fan and enjoyed spending time with young adults and children, always bringing laughter and joy to their hearts. He truly will be missed by all who knew him. A casual-attire memorial to celebrate his life will be on Sunday, June 10, from 2 – 4 p.m. at the Salmen-Fritchie House (Patton's), 127 Cleveland St., Slidell. A Catholic blessing will be at 3:30 p.m. In lieu of flowers, send donations in Neal’s memory to St Jude Children's Hospital or Chalmette High School Basketball Team. ===================
