The former Mandeville resident was raised in Lacombe and graduated from Mandeville High School, where he was a football team captain who received an award for honesty and leadership. When he was 15 years old, he started working in restaurants, which led him to his wife. In 2003, he moved to Jefferson City, Mo., where he started working in carpentry. The apprenticeship school graduate was the Possible Supply founder and owner and a Grace Evangelical Free Church member. The children’s baseball and football coach and high school football referee was a proud Louisiana State University and New Orleans Saints supporter. His greatest passion was spending time with his children, but he also was known for his cooking, particularly of Cajun food. He is survived by his wife, Jessica Marie Verslues; their children, Ariona Marie, Elijah William and Judah Harold Batiste; his mother, Paulette Butler Batiste of Mandeville; father, Dennis Mark Batiste Sr., of Lacombe; sister and brother-in-law, Susan and Robert Brown of Tampa, Fla.; brother, Ryan Batiste and fiancée Victoria Thomas of Abita Springs; grandparents, William and Verna Butler and Adrian and Violet Batiste; father and mother-in-law, Dale and Emilie Verslues; brothers-in-law and their spouses, Jason and Dinah Verslues, Mark Verslues, Matt and Tara Verslues and Derek Verslues, and nieces and nephews, Christian “CJ” Harper, Sebastian, Sadie, Mackenzie, Jacob, Hailey and Kamryn. The funeral services will be today at 11, with visitation starting at 9 a.m., at the First Baptist Church, 1895 U.S. Highway 190, Mandeville. Interment will follow in the Mandeville Cemetery.
