He was the husband of Judy Courtney Byrnes for the past 49 years; father and father-in-law of Kathleen and Peter Williams of Fishers, Ind., Maureen and Wesley Hardegree of Lawrenceville, Ga., Eileen and Tommy Parks of Atlanta and J. Courtney “Cort” and Tara Byrnes of Lighthouse Point, Fla.; son of the late Edward R. and Pauline Schrot Byrnes; brother and brother-in-law of Edward J. and Jacqueline Byrnes of McComb, Mich., David J. and Theresa Byrnes of Cresson, Pa., Gilda Byrnes and the late Raymond T. Byrnes and the late James P. Byrnes. He also is survived by five grandchildren, Cynthia Hardegree, Andrew Byrnes, Wyatt Parks and Ryan and Erin Williams. The native of Barnesboro, Pa., was a Slidell resident since 1976. The U.S. Army veteran who served during the Korean War earned a bachelor’s degree in mathematics from St. Francis College in Loretta, Pa., and retired in 1990 as a Naval Oceanographic Research and Development Agency geophysicist at Stennis Space Center. He was an original board member and building committee co-chairman of East St. Tammany Habitat for Humanity and a Northshore Disaster Relief volunteer at Aldersgate United Methodist Church in Slidell. Visitation is tonight from 6-9 at Honaker Funeral Home, 1751 Gause Blvd. W., Slidell. A Mass of Christian burial will be July 21 at 11 a.m., with visitation starting at 10 a.m., at St. Luke the Evangelist Catholic Church, 910 Cross Gates Blvd., Slidell. Interment will be private in Biloxi National Cemetery, Biloxi, Miss. In lieu of flowers, donations preferred to Notre Dame Hospice of Slidell, 113 Christian Lane, Slidell, La., 70458. ===================
