He was born March 6, 1920 in New Orleans to the late James Edward and Eleanore Kirchner Digby, was a resident of Beau Chene in Mandeville, LA for 40 years before moving a year ago into the memory care unit at Sunrise of Metairie. The beloved husband of Adele Augusta Babin Digby, the love of his life for 70 years, he is survived by his daughter, Dianne Digby Ramsey (Ozzie) of Hot Springs Village, AR and his son, James H. Digby, Jr. of Mandeville, LA. The grandfather of Monique Pellegrin (Jim) of Kenner, LA, Stacy Perret of Prairieville, LA, Sean and Allen Digby of Fort Meyers, FL, Sable A.D. Lambert of Madisonville, LA; he is also survived by four great grandchildren: Logan Perret, Hailee and Jenna Pellegrin, Zander Lambert and a host of nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by three brothers: Baby Joey, Walter and Maurice Digby; two sisters, Florence D. Muller (Harold) and Thelma D. Ussery (Edmund). “Digger” served proudly in the USMC and the U.S. Army. He served in 3 major Campaigns during WWII, the Battle of the Bulge, the Battle of Bastogne and the Bridge at Remagen. Digger loved life; he was an avid golfer, traveled extensively, cruised the world and danced his way into the hearts of many. He was a member of the Beau Chene Country Club, Franco’s Athletic Club, The VFW, Lion’s Club International, 9th Armored Division, Let’s Dance Club and he served countless volunteer hours at the World War II Museum. Relatives and friends of the family are invited to attend the funeral mass at 11:00 AM on Saturday, July 28, 2012 at E.J. Fielding Funeral Home, 2260 W. 21st Ave., Covington, LA 70433. Visiting hours will begin Saturday at 9:00 AM. Interment at Pinecrest Memorial Gardens in Covington will immediately follow mass.
