Please go to http://usgwarchives.net/la/sttammany/obits/dateobits/2012/st1207.htm and click to view list of photos. ========== Brother André Lacoste, FSC (Berchmans Peter) passed away at Château de Notre Dame in New Orleans, La. on Monday, July 9, 2012, after a long illness at 81 years of age. He was born in New Orleans, LA, the son of the late André Pierre Lacoste and the late Loretto Elizabeth Sazare on October 25. 1931. He was preceded in death by his brother Émile Lacoste and his sister Margarite Lacoste. Brother is survived by Sister Andrea Lacoste, DC, sister, and Andrea Stephens, niece, and her husband Don. Brother André entered the Junior Novitiate of the De La Salle Christian Brothers in Lafayette, LA on June 7, 1944. He received the religious habit on August 14, 1948 and made final profession of vows on June 6, 1956. He ministered as a Brother for 64 years. He began his teaching career at St. Peter’s School in New Iberia, LA. The many years of his teaching ministry brought him too many schools in the New Orleans-Santa Fe District of the De La Salle Christian Brothers, including Cathedral High School and the Junior Novitiate in Lafayette, LA; St. Michael’s High School and the College of Santa Fe in Santa Fe, New Mexico; Landry Memorial High School in Lake Charles, LA, De La Salle High School and Christian Brothers School in New Orleans, LA; St. Paul’s School in Covington, LA, and Archbishop Rummel High School in Metairie, LA. In addition, Brother served as Director of the Junior Novitiate (Lafayette) and Director of Novices (Santa Fe). An avid lover of music, Brother was an accomplished organist and was gifted with a beautiful singing voice. It was a rare occasion to find Brother not reading, and proclaiming, “The best book I have ever read”. He earned a B.A. in Social Studies from the College of Santa Fe in 1954, an M.A. in English from St. Mary’s University in San Antonio, TX in 1965 and a Ph. D in Literature from Tulane University in New Orleans in 1982. The Brothers would like to thank the R & R Home Care for the wonderful attention they gave Brother during his stay in the St. Paul’s School Community in Covington, LA and Hospice of Chateau de Notre Dame of New Orleans. Brother will be sadly missed by his Religious Confreres, his family, former students and friends. A memorial mass will be held in the St. Paul’s School Community chapel, 917 S. Jahncke Ave., Covington, LA 70433 at 5:15 on Friday, July 20, 2012. A funeral mass will be held at St. Michael’s High School in Santa Fe with interment in Rosario Cemetery later in the month. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in the memory of Brother André to the Saint La Salle Auxiliary, 917 S. Jahncke Ave., Covington, 70433. ===================
