Michael Oliver Purvis, 65, of Sanford, Miss., died Sunday July 8, 2012.

He was the son of the late Oscar Miller Purvis and the late Ivell Welborn 
Purvis, and brother and brother-in-law of the late Karen Lorentz, Tim and 
Rosaleen Purvis and Cheryl and Philip Schemanski. 
He is survived by nieces and nephews and their spouses, Stephanie Prude and 
Michael Brashear, Andrew and Susan Prude and Angela Prude and Ryan Bailey, 
Shane Purvis and Amy Purvis, and Heather Schemanski and Noah Schemanski and 
many great-nephews and great-nieces.

The longtime licensed tugboat pilot, who served in the U.S. Army during the 
Vietnam War, recently retired.

A private family memorial will be held.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be sent to the Wounded Warriors Project.
