He was the son of Olen Charles Blackwell and Elulia Ezell. He is survived by his wife of 59 years, Joyce Faye Carter; sons, David and Daniel Blackwell; daughter, Denell Blackwell; grandchildren, Madison Cronin, Erin and Cameron Blackwell, and brother, Oscar Blackwell, who is the sole surviving sibling of Olen Charles Jr., Alice Chatellier, Sue Graham and Mary Myers. Blackwell was born in a small clapboard house in Blond, near the spot where he built his retirement home. He began his construction career as a young man, working on the Pontchartrain Causeway and Interstate 10 Twin Span Bridge. He continued gaining experience with oil storage projects in Avery Island and Panama and Venezuela. A memorial plaque will be placed in the future in the family cemetery at New Zion Baptist Church. Bagnell & Son Funeral Home of Covington handled the announcement. ===================
