Melvin was born December 29, 1929 to the late Edward and Edna Toomer Grinnell. A native of Mandeville and a graduate of Mandeville High School in 1947, he proudly served aboard a C-47 transport plane in the U.S. Air Force during the Korean conflict and later attended Southeastern Louisiana College. Melvin, devoted to his community, was instrumental in the development of the 4th Ward Recreation Association. He enjoyed coaching and served on various booster and municipal organizations in the Mandeville area. Melvin, a retired real estate/insurance broker and school bus operator for the St. Tammany Parish School System will forever be remembered by his loved ones as “Papare”. The beloved husband of the late Alice Richardson Grinnell, he is survived by two sons, Barry F. and Don E. Grinnell and one daughter, Terri Grinnell Fogarty. He is the father-in-law of Lora L. Grinnell and Richard M. Fogarty. He is also survived by six grandchildren: Barry, Braden and Brant Grinnell, Reese and Reagan Fogarty and Grayson Grinnell. He was preceded in death by his sister, Rosavilla G. Cole and his brother, Francis Grinnell. Relatives and friends of the family are invited to attend the funeral mass at 12:00 Noon on Monday, August 20, 2012 at Our Lady of the Lake Catholic Church, 306 Lafitte St., Mandeville, LA 70448. Visiting hours at the church will begin Monday at 10:00 AM. Interment at the Mandeville Cemetery will immediately follow the mass. ===================
