Gutierrez, Sr., known to most as “Poppa G” or “S.J.”, was born on July 5, 1941 and passed away on Thursday, August 2, 2012. He was a lifelong resident of Mandeville, LA. He was a 1959 graduate of St. Paul’s High School, attended St. Joseph’s Seminary College and served the U. S. Coast Guard and local Coast Guard Auxiliary. He was the first Eagle Scout in St. Tammany Parish, and devoted thirty years of service to the Boy Scouts of America, was also a volunteer fire fighter, and served as a volunteer for various organizations in the Mandeville area. Stephen was the son of the late Amado P. Gutierrez and Pearl Authement Gutierrez; the loving husband of Nerle Sones Gutierrez; the father of Stephen J. Gutierrez, Jr., Seth J. Gutierrez, Stephanie J. Gutierrez and Susan Gutierrez Brady; the father-in-law of Deidre Peterson Gutierrez and Greg M. Brady; the grandfather of Mia Gutierrez, Mona Nasrawi, Galaxy Gutierrez, Scott M. Brady and HollyAnn M. Brady. He is also survived by three sisters. Besides his parents, he is preceded in death by two sisters and two brothers. Relatives and friends of the family are invited to attend the Funeral Mass at Mary Queen of Peace Catholic Church, 1501 West Causeway Approach, Mandeville, LA 70471 on Tuesday, August 7, 2012 at 11:00 AM. A Wake will be held on Monday, August 6, 2012 from 6:00 to 9:00 PM at E.J. Fielding Funeral Home, 2260 West 21st Avenue, Covington, LA 70433. Visitation will continue on Tuesday AT THE CHURCH beginning at 10:00 AM. Interment will follow Mass at the Mandeville Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family would prefer donations to Hospice of St. Tammany U.S. Veteran ===================
