He was born in Portsmouth, Virginia on September 17, 1943 to Dallas and Ida Mae Lynch. At his death he was a resident of Slidell, Louisiana and a member of Macedonia Baptist Church, Slidell, Louisiana. He is predeceased by his father, Dallas H. Lynch. A "military man" at heart, he joined the Navy at an early age. He served as a Navy Instructor with the Command Training Team and traveled extensively on various Navy ships teaching power engineering/boiler plant maintenance to the Navy's engineering community. His military duty also includes two tours in Viet Nam. With tenacity and hard work, he rose through the ranks to achieve one of the highest levels in the Navy - Command Master Chief while attached to the USS Barney (DDG-6). He retired from the Navy after completing 24 years of active duty. After retiring, he worked for the Navy in a civilian capacity as a Power Engineer and completed 20 years of service at the Norfolk Naval Base, Norfolk, Virginia. He retired from the federal government in 2005 and moved to Slidell, Louisiana to enjoy a well-earned retirement. An avid fisherman, he truly loved patrolling his boat through Louisiana's waterways. He was also an excellent bowler and proudly displayed his shelves of bowling trophies won through the years. As a member of the Ancient Arabic Order of the Nobles of the Mystic Shrine organization for many decades, he rose to the position of Potentate and enjoyed participating in many charity functions sponsored by the organization. He was formerly married to Shirley Jordan Lynch but their marriage ended with her untimely death. After Shirley's death, he met Gerry McMillian Cox. They married in 1993. He and Gerry shared a special "oneness" in their relationship that is seldom seen in most marriages. Their blended family includes eight children - Dorothea Peterson of Portsmouth, Virginia (Andrew), Eursula Johnson of Corpus Christi, Texas, Dallas Lynch, Jr. (Cindy) of Norfolk, Virginia, Patrice Johnson (Ulysses) of Chesapeake, Virginia, Jacqueline Lynch of Norfolk, Virginia, Alvin Cox (Brandy) of Mobile, Alabama, Calvin Cox (Ludina) of Woodbridge, Virginia, and Charles Cox (Meredith Lumpkin) of Virginia Beach, Virginia. He leaves to cherish his memories his mother, Ida Mae Lynch of Portsmouth, one brother, Linwood Lynch (Alesia) of Portsmouth, Virginia, 22 grandchildren, nieces, nephews, relatives and friends. Dallas unselfishly shared his life with his family, relatives, church family and neighbors. He will be missed but his presence will remain in our hearts. Relatives and friends of the family are invited to attend the Funeral Services at Macedonia Baptist Church, 60183 Bryan Road, Slidell, LA on Tuesday, August 21, 2012 at 1:00 P.M. Visitation at the church on Tuesday after 11:00 A.M. until funeral time. ===================
