Shirley Ellen Smith Schillinger, 79, died Tuesday, July 31, 2012.

She was a member of the Slidell Church of Christ in Slidell.

She was the wife of the late Ernest Leo Schillinger; daughter of the late 
Genevieve L. Hagerty and Lowell G. Smith; mother of Daniel E. Schillinger of 
Slidell, Gary L. Schillinger of Sale Creek, Tenn., and the late Robert A. 
Schillinger of Toledo, Ohio; mother-in-law of Margaret Ann Kreh Schillinger; 
grandmother of Sarah R. Schillinger Ridner of Tullahoma, Tenn., and great-
grandmother of James A. Baker Jr., Daniel Lee Baker and Kiara R. Ridner, all of 
Tullahoma.

She was a telephone operator briefly after graduating from DeVilbiss High 
School in Toledo, Ohio, and getting married. The homemaker who provided 
childcare for others at times moved to Tullahoma, Tenn., upon her husband’s 
retirement. As a widow, she moved to live with family in Slidell.

A memorial service will be Aug. 25 at 2 p.m. at the Slidell Church of Christ, 
944 Old Spanish Trail, Slidell.
