The New Orleans native and former Metairie resident lived in Covington for the past 25 years. Survivors include his wife of 62 years, Jeanette Grant Campbell; son and daughters-in-law, Grant W., Cindi and April Campbell; a sister, Carolyn Campbell; daughter and son-in-law, Sydney Campbell and Michael Petrosky, and 14 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a son, Kent Campbell, and his parents, Mildred Forscler and Sidney William Campbell Sr. He was a U.S. Army veteran in Patton’s army during World War II in the European Theatre with the 20th Armored Division Infantry, which liberated the concentration camp in Dacau, Germany. He owned and operated S.W. Campbell and Son Roofing Co., the largest roofing contractor of its time in New Orleans that re-roofed the St. Louis Cathedral, and had other endeavors, such as real estate investments, Campbell Cabinet Co., and Campbell Building Materials. The Mason was a member of the Good Ole’ Metry Boys, Gaylord Carnival and Social Club and Big Easy Jazz Ambassadors. The successful man’s passions were his grandchildren, travel, food and music. The funeral service will be Sept. 29 at 2 p.m., with visitation starting at noon, at E.J. Fielding Funeral Home, 2260 W. 21st Ave., Covington.
