She was the daughter of Nannie Laurie Boyd Townsend and Pascal Judson Townsend. She had a sister, the late Willie Ruth Townsend Cowan, and a brother, the late Pascal Judson Townsend, Jr. Meme grew up in rural Mississippi and lived through the Great Depression. She was a medical technologist before meeting her beloved husband, the late Walker Percy of Greenville, Mississippi. They were happily married until Walker’s passing in 1990. They lived in Greenville, Sewanee, New Orleans, and finally Covington, where she has lived for the past 64 years. She is survived by daughters Mary Pratt Percy Lobdell and Ann Boyd Percy Moores, grandsons John Walker Lobdell, Robert Livingston Lobdell, David Lawson Moores, and John "Jack" Percy Moores as well as 6 great-grandchildren. Among her many activities were volunteering at Sacred Heart Academy in New Orleans, serving as board member of the Bright School for the Deaf, serving on the board of LA Council of Performing Arts as well as on the board of Headstart Covington. She was president of St. Scholastica Academy PTA, president of St. Tammany Art Association, and volunteer at Forest Manor Nursing home for 32 years. In between all of this work, she found time to endear herself to everyone who had the pleasure of getting to know her and loved enjoying time with friends. She was a member of St. Peter Catholic Church and an Oblate at St. Joseph’s Abbey. She often attended Mass at Our Lady of Peace Chapel at St Paul School. She loved children and was a natural teacher who could make learning fun. One notable accomplishment was learning how to teach her deaf daughter and later her grandson how to speak and communicate with the hearing world. Her social nature led to many friendships, and her love for God was a sweet example of devotion. She will be fondly remembered by all those who were blessed to know her. Relatives and friends of the family are invited to attend the Funeral Mass at St. Joseph Abbey, 75376 River Rd., St. Benedict, LA 70457 on Monday, September 10, 2012 at 2:00 PM with visitation at E.J. Fielding Funeral Home, 2260 W. 21st Avenue, Covington, LA 70433 on Monday from 11:30 AM until 1:30 PM. Interment will follow in St. Joseph Abbey Cemetery. The family suggests memorial contributions be sent to the Walker Percy Scholarship Fund at St. Paul School. ===================
