He was 74, a disabled Offshore Construction Superintendent/Inspector. He was a Sgt. in the U.S. Army 3d Artillery 2AD Fort Hood. Visiting at Walker Baptist Church on Tuesday, Sept. 18, 2012 from 5 p.m. until 9 p.m. Visitation Wednesday, Sept. 19, 2012 from 9:00 a.m. until service at Walker Baptist Church at 10:30 a.m. conducted by Dr. Richard Blue, Pastor. Interment in Pinecrest Memorial Gardens, W. 21st Street, Covington, with graveside service at 2:30 p.m. with military honors. Survivors include his wife, Patricia Ann Cross Shelton; son, Andrew Dale Shelton and wife Terry M. Shelton, of Denham Springs; sister, Bessie Morgan and family, of Newton, NC; sisters-in-law, Andrea E. Evans of Denham Springs, Debbie and Stephen McLain and family, of Bush, and Karen and David Adkins and family of Covington; brother, Alfred "A.J." and Carol Loga and family, of Shreveport; grandchildren, Joshua M. Shelton and Casey E. Shelton of Denham Springs; and many nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews too numerous to name. Preceded in death by his son, Lawrence Benjamin "Benjie" Shelton III; parents, Lawrence Benjamin Shelton, Sr. and Josephine Angelo Shelton; father- in-law, Andrew Jackson Cross; mother-in-law, Mary C. Barr; niece, Robin Evans; and nephew, Robert Len Smith. He was a graduate of Covington High School, class of '56. He was in the Civil Air Patrol 1958, Barksdale AFB. He was also a Master Welder/1st class Machinist and worked offshore in the oil business as a Barge Foreman, Captain, Construction Superintendent and Inspector in the Gulf of Mexico and the North Sea in Scotland, GB. He was a member of Walker Baptist Church and past member of FBC Covington. He was an Ordained Deacon, Past Master AU Peterson Masonic Lodge, Folsom, a Perpetual Member, Slidell, No. 68 RAM and 48 CM. Additionally, he was an avid Hunter, fisherman, bowler and golfer, but most proud of his grandchildren Casey and Josh and Lil' Bit and his sons. He crocheted many beautiful items.
