He was 72 years old. Son of the late Charles Webre and Inez Tassin Webre, Brother Joseph was born in New Orleans, Louisiana on May 18, 1940. He made his profession as a Benedictine monk of Saint Joseph Abbey on August 29, 1960. He is survived by his siblings Fred Webre, Emory Webre, Judith Webre Livaudais, and Donald Webre. Throughout his 52 years as a monk, Brother Joseph served his fellow monks in numerous positions in the monastery dairy, kitchen, grounds and maintenance departments, and on the monastery farm. He will be best remembered for his 18 years of service in the Pennies for Bread and the Abbey (PBA) Program where he literally helped to feed the Lord’s sheep in the poor and homeless of the New Orleans region. Brother Joseph’s body will be received on Tuesday, September 25, 2012 at 5:30 p.m. at Saint Joseph Abbey followed by the singing of Vespers. Later that evening at 7:15 p.m. a Funeral Vigil will be held in the Abbey Church. The Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Wednesday, September 26, 2012 at 11:15 a.m. at St. Joseph Abbey followed by burial in the Abbey Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations to the Pennies for Bread and the Abbey (PBA) Program will be appreciated. ===================
