Born June 1, 1922. Survived by her three children, Paulette Marie Cordes, Paul Desbon Cordes, Jr. (Karen Heausler Cordes), and Elizabeth Skelly Cordes; two grandchildren, Paul Desbon Cordes III and Marcel Allen Cordes. Preceded in death by her beloved husband of 57 years, Paul Desbon Cordes; her parents, Joseph Patrick Skelly and Gertrude Morrison Skelly; her sisters, Helen Skelly D’Antoni, Florence Skelly Kreller, Margaret Skelly Hotard and J. Patricia Skelly; and her brother, James T. Skelly. A native of New Orleans and resident of Mandeville, Louisiana, for the past 54 years. She was a graduate of Ursuline Academy and Ursuline College. Betty was first and foremost a wife and mother in charge of all aspects of homemaking. She taught grammar school for 10 years at Our Lady of the Lake Catholic School in Mandeville and was a licensed real estate broker. She also managed the political campaigns of her husband and served in numerous capacities in many civic and charitable organizations. She was a devoted parishioner of Our Lady of the Lake Catholic Church and a recipient of The Order of St. Louis Medal. Betty was well known for her warmth and hospitality. She was a former member of the Orleans Club and a member of the Pontchartrain Yacht Club. The family would like to specially thank Lurline Calvin, Edith Brown, Gail Brown, Demetria Toliver, Frances Carlson, Virginia Brown, Odelia Gordon, Sandy Hall and Sandra Faciane for their care and devotion. Relatives and friends of the family are invited to attend the Funeral Mass at Our Lady of the Lake Catholic Church, 2115 Jefferson St., Mandeville, LA on Friday, October 12, 2012 at 12:00 Noon. Interment in Mandeville Cemetery Mausoleum. Friends may call at the church on Friday from 10:00 AM until service time.
