Please go to http://usgwarchives.net/la/sttammany/obits/dateobits/2012/st1210.htm and click to view list of photos. ========== ALICE LANUSSE DEANO passed away at age 84 on October 15, 2012 peacefully at her home in Mandeville, Louisiana. Her parents Charles C. Lanusse and Alice Stelly Lanusse, and her husband Edward Deano and her brother Wilbur Lanusse preceded her in death. She is survived by her sister Patsy Lanusse Jones (Bob) of Grand Coteau, LA., and her children Edward Deano, Jr. (Susan Bailey), Cathy Deano (Wally Mader) and Becky Deano (Jay Conner) and her grandchildren Eva Conner and Ryan Mader, all of Mandeville, LA. Alice was born in Opelousas, Louisiana June 26, 1928 and graduated Salutatorian from Opelousas High School in 1945. She graduated Valedictorian in 1949 from Ursuline College in New Orleans, La. She was a charter member of the Louisiana Chapter of the Congress of Racial Equality. Alice remained a dependable voice for civil rights her entire life. She taught in the public schools in St. Landry Parish. After her marriage and move to Mandeville in 1950 she taught at Covington High School and Our Lady of the Lake Elementary School in Mandeville. Teaching truly was in her DNA. Additionally, she taught hundreds in her then small community how to dance, sing, play bridge and cook---things that would give people enjoyment their whole lives. Her work in the kitchen is legendary. She was a Girl Scout troop leader, a member of the Our Lady of the Lake Altar Society for generations and a long time volunteer with the Thomas L. Young Auxiliary at Southeast Louisiana Hospital. In lieu of flowers please send a donation to the Samaritan Center, 402 Girod Street, Mandeville, La. 70448, or your favorite charity. There will be a visitation service at Our Lady of the Lake Church, 312 Lafitte St., Mandeville, LA 70448 on Thursday, October 18, 2012 at 10:00 am with a Mass at noon. Burial will be in the Old Mandeville Cemetery. ===================
