L. “Jim” Arender, 73, formerly of Santa Fe, N.M., died Wednesday, Nov. 14, 2012. Survivors include his brothers, Eric Arender of New Orleans and Max Vickers of Houston; nephew, Peter Arender of Barbados, and one of his best friends and caregiver, Lenny Waugh of South Pasadena, Fla. Born in Stillwater, Okla., the U.S. Army veteran was a sergeant with the 82nd Airborne Division and Army Parachute Team member. The World Champion parachutist was the first American to win a gold medal in parachuting and worked for many years as a parachuting instructor and technical advisor. Interment services with military honors will be Dec. 3 at 11:15 a.m. at Santa Fe National Cemetery, followed by a memorial service from 1-4 p.m. a the Hilton Santa Fe Historic Plaza,100 Sandoval St., Santa Fe, N.M. Memorial contributions may be made to the Wounded Warrior Fund. ===================
