Please go to http://usgwarchives.net/la/sttammany/obits/dateobits/2012/st1211.htm and click to view list of photos. ========== William Allen Burke, on Sunday, November 2, 2012 at 2:15 in the afternoon, my beloved William, my Anam Cara (soul friend), was called Home and into the loving arms of our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. He was 91 years young. ‘Bill” as he was known to his friends, graduated from Paseo High School, Kansas City, MO in 1938 and immediately enlisted in the Navy…a childhood dream. He proudly served in WWII in the Pacific Theater being in combat areas with VP- 51 Patrol Squadron as radioman on a PBY Catalina. He was at Midway and Espiritu Santos to name a few. He received the rank of Chief Petty Officer and was recalled to duty during the Korean Conflict. He served on the USS Eugene A. Greene DD/DDR-711. He was most active in the VFW, being a Life Member of Post # 5735, Slidell and Post # 7286, Covington. He was District 9 Quartermaster 1990-1991, District 9 Commander, 1992-1993, Post # 7286 Post Commander 1997-2001 and 2003-2004. He retired from the FAA as Air Traffic Controller with 35 years of government service. He was a past President of NARFE(National Association of Retired Federal Employees.) He also devoted many hours as a Volunteer at Northshore and Lakeview Hospitals. He was predeceased by his parents, Leland Eugene Burke and Sarah Beatrice Allen and his sister, Annabelle Burke Coe. William is survived by his adoring wife of 11 1/2 years, Susan Brown Burke, two loving children, Susanne Marie Duplantis (fiance’ The Rev. Chris Andrews) and Richard Charles Duplantis (wife, Vicki), a sister-in-law, Carolyn Brown Rees and a niece, Judy Hidy. He was a resident of Mandeville for the past 17 years. He will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him. “Until we meet again, may God hold you in the palm of his hand” Private Memorial Services will be held at a later date.
