Survivors include his wife of 61 years, Eleanor “Ellie,” and children and their spouses, Debra J. and Kerry Schmidt, William R. and Debbie, Robert H. and Stephanie, Bradley E. and Beth, Benjamin P. and Tina, and Denise J. Rose and Mark; grandchildren, Robert, Angela, Ryan, Rhett, Colton, Amy, Chase, Joel, Jessica, Jennifer, Brennan, Cameron, Tyler, Haley and Cody; great- grandchildren, Paige, Peyton, Jacob, William, Luke, Emerson “Emme” and Jayce, and brothers, Robert Emerson of Savage, Minn., and John Emerson of San Francisco. The native of Minneapolis, Minn., was a grain elevator superintendent with Cargill and Archer Daniel Midland who lived with his family in various cities in Minnesota, Louisiana, New Jersey and Tennessee. Upon retirement, he returned in 1986 to Madisonville. He served in the U.S. Navy in Key West, Fla., as a sonar instructor and on the Newport News in Virginia and was fondly remembered for his Viking spirit, quick smile and love of singing and playing the concertina. Services and interment were private. ===================
