REINE, of Slidell, LA, passed away on Sunday, December 16, 2012 at Slidell Memorial Hospital. Beloved husband of Renee Whitmarsh Reine. Father of Connor Reine, Holly Arroyo and Dustin Arroyo. Beloved Son of Diane Parker Reine and the late George E. Reine, III. Grandson of Albert David Parker and the late Wanzie B. Parker, and the late Bertha E. and George E. Reine, Jr. Godfather to Ryan Johnson, Amanda Reine, Samantha Tabor, Madison Williams and Kori Reine. Also survived by numerous aunts, uncles, cousins and friends. Age 43 years; a native and lifelong resident of Slidell, Scott was a 1987 graduate of Pope John Paul, II High School and received his BA in Psychology from LSU. He was a dedicated basketball coach for First Baptist School in Slidell, LA., was a volunteer coach for many years at Pope John Paul, II H.S. and was very active with PJP Alumni Association. He served on the Board of Directors of Slidell Memorial Hospital having chaired the Capital Campaign Committee for fundraising and served on many of it’s committees. One of his special honors was serving as a Lead Advocate on the Board of Directors of STARC. He volunteered to speak to many local junior and high school students. Having been injured at the age of 16 with a spinal cord injury, he was called upon many times to talk with other injured spinal cord patients. He was the receipient of the “Yes I Can” award for determination, perseverance and accomplishment in the face of adversity along with the “Governor’s Award of Excellence” for public awareness and volunteer work throughout the state. Scott inspired many people with his determination that you can do whatever you want no matter what the adversity may be. He was owner and operator of Phoenix Homes and ADA Contractors and very active in the community. All services are being held private. A public memorial service will be held at 1:30pm on Friday, December 21, 2012 in the gymnasium of First Baptist Church School, 4141 Pontchartrain Blvd., Slidell, LA.
