ELFERT, of Madisonville, LA, passed away on Tuesday, January 22, 2013 at Northshore Specialty Hospital. Beloved husband of Iris Williams Elfert for 65 years. Father of Ann Laurie Elfert Bourgeois and Eileen “Bobbie” Elfert Schexnayder (Johnny). Son of the late Whitney J. Elfert, Sr. and Emma Lasseigne Elfert. Brother of Sherman Elfert (Claire), and the late Whitney J. Elfert, Jr., Rita Elfert Kreiger, and Una Mae Elfert. Also survived by 5 grandchildren; Keith Bourgeois (Susannah), Kris Bourgeois (Cheri’), Kirk Bourgeois (Kelly), Gregory Schexnayder (Christie), and Jason Schexnayder (Katrina); and 8 great grandchildren, Briana Daniel, Vincent Bourgeois, Emma Rae Bourgeois, Jacques Bourgeois, Charlotte Bourgeois, Joseph Schexnayder, Lilah Ann Schexnayder, and Elley Iris Schexnayder; and also numerous nieces and nephews. Age 86 years; a native of New Orleans and a resident of the Northshore for the past 25 years. He was a graduate of St. Aloysius of New Orleans, served his country in the US Navy during WWII where he was stationed in the South Pacific and was a retired Printer for Simmons Press of New Orleans, LA. He was a member of the American Legion Post 401. Rodger, affectionately known as “Ra Ra”, was a very selfless person, who was always serving his family first and anyone else who may have been in need. The family would like to thank Melanie Poche and the staff at St. Tammany Parish Hospital and Northshore Specialty Hospital for all the love and care they gave to our loved one during this time of need. Relatives and friends of the family are invited to attend the funeral mass at HONAKER FUNERAL HOME, 1751 GAUSE Blvd. WEST (IN FOREST LAWN CEMETERY), Slidell, LA on Friday, January 25, 2013 at 2:00pm. Visitation will be from 12:00pm until 2:00pm. Interment will follow in Forest Lawn Cemetery.
