Born June 25, 1956 in New Orleans, Cindy was the daughter of the late Virginia Faye and George Joseph Higgins. She was preceded in death by her husband of 19 years, John William Broom. Cindy is survived by her children, Carson Elise Higgins Broom, Zachary Reed Queyrouze, Jessamine Queyrouze Barthels and son-in-law Erik Barthels, and grandchildren Miles Jay Barthels and Iris May Barthels. Her siblings Colleen Elam and husband Joseph, Jay Higgins and wife Felicia, Laurie Higgins, Bonnie Higgins, Bliss Higgins and husband Wade Adams, Clay Higgins and wife Becca, and Tammie Higgins, and more than two dozen nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews. A teacher in the St Tammany Parish School System for almost 20 years, Ms. Higgins is also survived and fondly remembered by the many students who were lucky enough to spend a wonderful year with her. She especially loved the years she spent teaching Kindergarten at Woodlake Elementary, and was so sad to leave her friends and students when Alzheimer’s forced her to retire in 2005. She loved to play piano, and filled the house with music. She loved her large, close family, and her children, endlessly and unconditionally. She was a bright and beautiful shining light, and the world is not darker with her passing. She leaves her light and love behind. She will be so very missed. Relatives and friends of the family are invited to celebrate Cindy’s life on Saturday, January 5, 2013 at E.J. Fielding Funeral Home, 2260 W. 21st Avenue, Covington, LA 70433 at 2:00 PM with a gathering on Saturday from 12:00 noon until service time. In lieu of flowers please consider donating to the Alzheimer’s Foundation. Cards of thanks and gratitude can be sent to the Lacombe Nursing Center for their wonderful, loving care. ===================
