Robert “Bob” Wesley Howard, U.S. Air Force, Retired, passed away on Saturday, January 12, 2013. He was 97 years “young”. Born of the 4th of July, 1915 to Carl and Hannah Grizzle Howard in Roswell, N.M. He went to school in Roswell N.M., and graduated from Eastern New Mexico University. He enlisted in 1941 and was a pilot in WWII. He retired in 1974 after 33 years of service to his country. He was also retired from Chrysler’s Space Division of Michoud Operations. Before retiring he volunteered a lot of his time to the Boy Scouts and he also helped his wife with her Girl Scout Troop. After retirement he was committed to staying busy taking on hobbies like painting and woodworking. He lost his eye sight in the early 1980s to Macular Degeneration but refused to let that slow him down. He would often be seen walking to many places that he used to drive. He was an active Mason and was a ‘Perpetual Member” of Slidell Lodge No 311, F.&A.M. and of Ocean-Orleans Lodge No. 144, F.& A.M. In 2000 he was Past Master of the Bayou Lacombe Lodge No. 459. In “York Rite Bodies” he was Past High Priest of Pontchartrain Chapter No. 48, Royal Arch Masons in 2010 and Illustrious Master of Slidell Council Crpitic Masons in 2011. He was Commander of C.A. Everitt Commandery, Knights Templar in 2010. He was an active member in Lakeshore, No. 59, Order of the Eastern Star. He was honored with the “Knights Cross of Honour” in 2012. He has been a Master Mason for over 20 years. He also attended the Slidell Senior Citizens Center and along with his Mason Brothers and Sisters, considered them his ‘extended family”. He was preceded in death by his wife of over 62 years, Margaret “Marge” Bowman Howard; both parents; sisters Inez Blanton and Mable Tilmant James; brother Carl and grandson Christopher Allen Dunlap. He is survived by a daughter, Margaret Howard Dunlap and a son, Robert Wesley Howard, Jr.(Patti), 6 grandchildren and 7 great grandchildren. Relatives and friends of the family are invited to attend the Masonic Funeral Services at HONAKER FUNERAL HOME,1751 GAUSE Blvd. WEST (IN FOREST LAWN CEMETERY), Slidell, LA on Thursday, January 17, 2012 at 12:45 P.M., followed by religious services. Interment with military honors in FOREST LAWN CEMETERY. Visitation on Thursday after 11:00 A.M. until funeral time. In lieu of flowers, donations to the Slidell Masonic Lodge No 311 Roof Repair Fund, preferred. ===================
