Thomas Maxwell Killgore, a retired oil lease broker, passed away after a brief 
illness on Sunday, January 27, 2013 at his home in Covington, LA. 

He was born July 29, 1920 in Lisbon, LA to the late Tom and Elizabeth Melton 
Killgore and has been a resident of Covington for over 50 years.

The beloved husband of Pat Clark Killgore for 33 years, he is survived by three 
sons: Tim, Hummel and James (Ann) Killgore; two daughters, Lana Davis (Tom) and 
Elizabeth Killgore; two step children, Pen Clark (Perry) and Patty Toepfer 
(Dave). He is also survived by one sister, Edith Kirkpatrick; 11 grandchildren 
and four great grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his wife, Lana Hummel 
Killgore and two sisters, Marjorie Welch and Ruth Tolson.

Max was a gifted athlete, from playing every sport, including quarterback, for 
“The Eagles” of Lisbon High School on through the years at Tchefuncte Country 
Club where he was an avid golfer. He attended Louisiana College for a brief 
period and in 1942 he graduated from Tulane University where he was a member of 
the Phi Delta Theta Fraternity. After his flight training at New Orleans Naval 
Air Station, he received advanced training in Pensacola, FL as 2nd Lieutenant 
USMC. While serving in the Pacific during World War II, he flew over 50 
missions piloting torpedo bombers, Corsairs and F7F’s. During the Korean War he 
performed training missions for radar operators in North Carolina. For service 
to his country and courage in battle, he was honored with the Distinguished 
Flying Cross along with other medals. He was released from active duty in 1952 
and retired from the reserves in 1957 as a Lieutenant Colonel. He then entered 
the private sector for a long, successful career in the petroleum industry. He 
was a dedicated member of Faith Presbyterian Church and he served on the boards 
of both Tchefuncte Club Estates and Tchefuncte Country Club, as their 
Presidents on two separate occasions.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend the funeral service to be held at 
10:30 AM on Thursday, January 31, 2013 at E.J. Fielding Funeral Home, 2260 West 
21st Avenue, Covington, LA 70433.

Visitation at the funeral home will begin at 9:30 AM.

Interment at the Theodore Dendinger Cemetery in Madisonville, LA will 
immediately follow the services.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Faith Presbyterian Church, 16330 
Highway 1085 Covington, LA 70433.
