Ernie leaves behind a legacy of grace and love to her children and grandchildren: son Paul, his wife Jeannine, and their children Preston and Charles-Grant; son John, his wife Susan, and their children Sarah, Natalie and Charlotte; son Robert and his children Everett and Stella. She is also survived by her brother, Billy Stokes of Ridgeland, MS and her sister, Maxine Stokes McDonald of Moss Point, MS. Ernestene was the daughter of the late John Luther Stokes and Era Mae Fulton Stokes. She is predeceased by her beloved husband of 52 years, Paul Clapp Knowlton, Jr., her brother, Prentiss Stokes, and sisters Kathleen Stokes Seals and Patricia Stokes Ackers. Ernie slipped peacefully into the arms of her loving God, where she was joyfully united with her husband Paul and many friends and family. She was our precious Mimi and a joy to our hearts; loving, kind and giving, never thinking of herself – always her family. She extended that same loving spirit to the friends of her sons and many others throughout her life. A long time resident of Riverwood Estates in Covington, Louisiana, Ernie started The Little School at The First United Methodist Church in 1971 and ended her career as Director of the preschool at Northlake Assembly of God. Ernie loved children and educating them was her passion. Relatives and friends are invited to attend the memorial service to be held at 11:00AM Saturday, January 12, 2013 at E.J. Fielding Funeral Home, 2260 West 21st Avenue, Covington, LA 70433. Officiating will be Pastor Jonathan Ziegler. Visitation at the funeral home will begin at 10:00 AM. Interment at St. Joseph Abbey Cemetery in Covington will immediately follow services. Following the committal services all are invited to meet the family at a venue to be announced. ===================
