Ron was born in Brooklyn, New York on January 15, 1930 to Jacob and Hilda Moltzan. He spent his childhood in the Bensonhurst section of Brooklyn surrounded by many other relatives, and spent summers at Tonetta Lake in Brewster, NY where Ron’s father, a carpenter, ultimately built the family home. Ron attended Concordia College in Bronxville, excelling in baseball and basketball. In 2007, he was inducted into the Concordia Sports Hall of Fame for his time on the Concordia Clippers basketball team during his Prep and Junior College years. He still holds the all time record for 40 points in a single game, and at that time earned his lifelong family nickname – “Moose”. He went on to attend Valparaiso University for undergraduate studies and later completed a Masters Degree from Florida State. He served in the U.S. Army based in Okinawa, Japan during the Korean War. After being overseas, Ron began working for Stouffers in New York, which led to his lifelong career in hospitality. He temporarily relocated to Florida for a stint at the Hollywood Beach Hotel, before returning to the New York area. Ron then ventured into the restaurant business, bought The Country Kitchen in Stamford, CT, and built his reputation as a restaurateur. With the success of The Country Kitchen, Ron bought the historic White Turkey Inn in Brookfield, CT, which he ran for a number of years. His career took him from New York to Connecticut to Florida to Louisiana where he provided food service management for restaurants, hospitals and schools. In recent years, he worked at Cedarwood and Northlake Christian schools where the highlight of his days was interacting with students and impressing them with the food art that he was so successful at creating. He loved being known as “Mr. Ron”. In his spare time, Ron could be found cheering on his favorite sports teams or attending local sporting events. He was a devout member of the Village Lutheran Church in Lacombe, Louisiana. Ron will be forever remembered for his kind nature, gentle way, and gift of telling a joke. Ron is survived by his daughter Wendy Werle and her husband Kevin Werle of West Simsbury, CT, and his grandchildren Meaghan, Jessica, Patrick and Kate Werle, son Erik Moltzan and partner Robert Lee of Sydney, Australia, his sister Lenore Wittrock/Ressmeyer of Somers, NY, his nieces Hope Wittrock of Greenwich, CT, Gabrielle Belz of Davenport, IA, Christa Curley of Brewster, NY, and, and his many friends in Mandeville-Covington who helped make this area his home. He is preceded in death by his parents Jacob and Hilda Moltzan and his son Mark Moltzan. A service will be held at the Village Lutheran Church in Lacombe, Louisiana on Friday January 25 at 4PM followed by a reception in the church hall. A private burial will be held at the Milltown Cemetery in Southeast, New York. In lieu of flowers, donations in memory of Ron, may be made to the Village Lutheran Church PO Box 1219 Lacombe, LA 70445 or Concordia College 171 White Plains Rd. Bronxville, NY 10708.
