Born on February 15, 1944 in New Orleans, LA to the late Jules E. Nunez and Mabel Acosta Nunez, Melvin resided most of his life in St. Bernard Parish and recently, Diamondhead, MS. Melvin attended St. Bernard High School and was in the Army National Guard. He had a long career with Kellogg Brown & Root until he retired in 2004. Melvin is survived by his loving wife of almost 48 years, JoAnne Gagliano, son Michael, daughter Tina Nunez DelValle, and grandson Connor James DelValle. Along with his family, he was surrounded at his bedside by his brother, Rene (Lillian), sister Janet Keller (Ronnie), niece Tammy, nephews Dwayne, Rodney and Ray; sister-in-law Cynthia Gagliano; and David DelValle. He will be remembered fondly by his many friends with whom he worked, hunted, and played golf. Special thanks to Dr. Joe Johnson and his wife Colleen for their care over the last several years; friends Joan & Dave Hudson; hunting and golfing buddy, Joe Cuccia; and especially Melvin’s bedside angels – his niece, Julie Diodene and the ER and ICU staff of Oschsner Northshore Hospital. A funeral mass will be celebrated at 10:00 am on February 23rd at St. Luke’s Catholic Church in Slidell with a reception to follow.
