Survivors include his wife of 39 years, Kay Johnson Rogers; Louisiana in-laws, Joan and Gurvis Johnson, Judy and Kenny Colley, Mike and Debbie Johnson, Lori Johnson-Labadie, and numerous nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents, Guy and Josie Rogers. He was a beautiful man with an amazing joy for life, always smiling, and loved being with the love of his life, his wife, whom he met in New Orleans in 1974. He was the retired chief pilot for the University of Tennessee and “took his final flight and flew into the arms of Jesus” after a long brave battle with esophageal cancer. He could not speak and communicated using a voice box machine pressed to his neck. His cancer spread, and his “miracle” was not to be. His passion was flying his Cessna 310, “The Songbird.” His life celebration and funeral was held Feb. 26 in Tennessee, but since his wife will be moving back home, he will be laid to rest on Feb. 26 at 12:30 p.m., with a graveside service at 1 p.m., in Pinecrest Memorial Gardens, Garden of Angels, in Covington. ===================
