COOPER, of Slidell, LA, passed away on Thursday, March 7, 2013 at Slidell Memorial Hospital. Beloved husband of the late Gayle E. Cooper. Father of Larry G. Cooper and wife Debby E. Cooper, Brenda C. Vercher and Cherry C. Martin and husband Rick S. Martin. Son of the late John S. Cooper and Annie Hunt Cooper. Grandfather of Kimberly McDonald, Heather Bourg, Cresta Bledsoe, Pam Babers, Jeremy Cooper, Becky Daniels, and Jeff Hettinger, (the late) Stephen Martin, Sam Martin, Katie Vercher, and Nate Cooper. Also survived by 18 great grandchildren; his sister, Annell Hasket; his sister and brother-in-law, Ann and Rush Shumate and preceded in death by 4 brothers and 1 sister. Age 89 years; a native of Meridian, MS and a resident of Slidell, LA since 1962. Mr. Cooper served his country in the US Army during WWII and retired as a Testing Engineer from Boeing and Martin Marietta. After his retirement, he opened Cooper’s Boots and ran his business for 8 years. He was a faithful and loving husband, father and friend who centered his life around God and church. Relatives and friends of the family are invited to attend the visitation at HONAKER FUNERAL HOME, 1751 GAUSE Blvd. WEST (IN FOREST LAWN CEMETERY), Slidell, LA on Monday, March 11, 2013 from 6:00pm until 8:00pm and on Tuesday morning from 9:00am until 11:00am. Funeral services will begin at 11:00am. Interment will follow in Forest Lawn Cemetery. Donations to First Baptist Food Pantry are preferred in lieu of flowers.
