Skip was born in Tampa, Florida to Pearl Alvarez and Augusto Garcia on January 7, 1934. He grew up in Tampa with an older brother, August, and attended Jesuit High School in New Orleans. After graduation, Skip came to Loyola University Dental School in New Orleans. While he was at Loyola, he was inducted in to the Tennis Hall of Fame. After graduation, he and Johanna Maisano were married in 1957 and traveled to Sidi Slimane, Morocco where he completed a two year commitment in the Air Force as a Captain. He returned to Kenner, Louisiana to begin his dental practice and to begin his family with Johanna. Skip was an avid tennis player, fisherman, and golfer. But the most important things in his life were his family and his faith. Over a 50 year period, Skip maintained close friends with those that he had met during the annual Manresa Retreat. Skip is survived by his wife Johanna and his children Jana Phillippi, Lisa GGarcia, Michael Garcia (now deceased), Kevin (Laurie) Garcia. He is also survived by his grandchildren Garrett Phillipi, Katie Phillippi, Nicholas and Matthew Garcia, and his brother-in-law Joseph (Gloria) Maisano. Skippy’s happy disposition and personality were like a magnet for all of the friends that he has made over a lifetime. He will be missed by all of his friends in Louisiana and Tampa, Florida. A funeral mass will be held at 11:00 AM on Saturday March 23, 2013 at St. Charles Borromeo Catholic Church, 13396 River Road, Destrehan, LA 70047. Visitation will be at church from 10:00 AM until service time. Interment will follow mass at St. Charles Borromeo Catholic Church Cemetery, Destrehan, LA. In lieu of flowers, prayers for the family will be greatly appreciated. ===================
