Please go to http://usgwarchives.net/la/sttammany/obits/dateobits/2013/st1303.htm and click to view list of photos. ========== WALTER SCHLESSMAN, passed away peacefully Wednesday night, March 6, 2013, at the home of his daughter and son-in-law, Libby and Michael Bentson. Born March 2, 1919, in Pittsburgh, PA, schooled at the University of Pittsburgh, he entered the Army Air Corps in 1941 as a Cadet, then later a bombardier in the Pacific Theater during World War II. He met the love of his life Marian Cotton while stationed in Casper, Wyoming, and they married January 23, 1944. Walt stayed in the Air Force Reserves after the war, retiring as a Major in 1979. He and Marian purchased the Grant Street Grocery in Casper, Wyoming, in 1946, where he was owner/butcher until selling in 1980 when they moved to Diamondhead, Mississippi. An avid golfer, Walter was president of many golfing associations and winner of several club championships. He was active in Lions Club, representing the Casper Club in China in 1975, in The Shrine, and in the Episcopal Church Vestry. He and Marian were avid duplicate bridge players and he was the third life master in Wyoming. He was preceded in death by his parents Walter Ephriam Schlessman Sr. and Clara Fink Schlessman. He is survived by his son and daughter and their spouses, Alan Cotton Schlessman and Terri Gallmeier, Libby and Michael Bentson, four grandchildren, Adam and Adrien Schless-Meier, Jennifer Hubert and her husband Mike, Dennis Bentson and his wife Kelly, and four great-grandchildren: Zachary, Elena, Adeline, and Kieran. Memorial Services will be held on Palm Sunday, March 24, 2013, at 12:00 noon, at St. Thomas Episcopal Church, 5303 Diamondhead Circle, Diamondhead, MS. =================== schiessman-walter
