She was the dearly beloved wife of 57 years to Theodore “Ted” Herbert Becker. Loving, dedicated mother and “friend” of Constance “Connie” Becker Baer (Mathew) and Daniel Farrell Becker. Devoted and proud grandmother of Jason Matthew Baer (Elisabeth), Jessica Constance Baer and Jennifer Lynne Baer. Caring great-grandmother of Carter Matthew Baer. Dearly loved daughter of the late Elmire Sanders Farrell and John Evangelist Farrell. Sister of the late John Frank Farrell and sister-in-law of Yvette Chamel Farrell. Mrs. Becker was born in Pass Christian, MS. She graduated from Pass Christian High School, the University of Southern Mississippi and received her master’s degree from Loyola University. Following her marriage, she moved to Alexandria, LA where her husband served as an Officer in the United States Air Force, later they moved to New Iberia, LA and then to New Orleans, LA. She was a devoted and beloved elementary school teacher in Jackson, MS; New Iberia, LA; and for over 37 years at John A. Shaw Elementary School in Orleans Parish. In addition to teaching at John A. Shaw, she had various other roles over the years including guidance counselor, assistant principal, principal, and mentor and friend to many of the teachers. “Sugar” was loved and respected by all for her dedication to her family and her profession of teaching. It is impossible to determine the impact she had on the hundreds of children she taught over the years. She will be missed and remembered by her family with countless wonderful memories. After she moved to New Orleans, she was a parishioner of Grace Lutheran Church and Prince of Peace Lutheran Church. Following Katrina, she and her husband moved to Covington and became members of Holy Trinity Lutheran Church & School where she served on their educational board and supported many efforts in their school. We are thankful for the healing hands and care given to her by the Northpark Fire Department, and the doctors and nurses at Lakeview Regional Medical Center in the Emergency Department and ICU. Special thanks to Michael, Jimmy, Jessica and Ashley for their support to our family. Relatives and friends of the family are invited to attend the funeral services on Thursday, May 30, 2013 at Holy Trinity Lutheran Church, 1 N. Marigold Drive, Covington, LA 70433 with visitation at the church on Thursday beginning at 9:00 a.m. followed by a service at 11:00 a.m. Interment will follow in St. Vincent de Paul Mausoleum in New Orleans. Flowers or donations to the Holy Trinity Lutheran School in memory of Mrs. Becker are welcome. ===================
