Madden passed away at his home in Slidell, Louisiana on Tuesday, June 4 at the age of 95. He is survived by his wife of 30 years, Ann Thomason Madden, 5 children, Myron, Jr. (Joanna), John (Nancy), Ben (Sabrina), and Merritt Madden and Julie Madden David (Bill), 9 grandchildren and 2 great-grandchildren. He is also survived by daughter-in-law Dr. Dorothy Banish, beloved cousin, Yvonne Madden Thompson, sister-in-law Geri Gray Martin, and many cousins, nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his first wife Mary Ben Gray Madden in 1981, and his parents, James Alva and Anna Crowson Madden. Dr. Madden was born in Bienville Parish, Louisiana. He was a graduate of Louisiana State University and Southern Baptist Theological Seminary. He served as an Army Chaplain in World War II, and spent most of his life training chaplains and pastoral counselors. He was pastor of St. Charles Avenue Baptist Church, Clinical Professor of Psychiatry at Louisiana State Medical Center, and Director of Pastoral Care at Southern Baptist Hospital in New Orleans, Louisiana. He authored several books, including his most noted, The Power to Bless. Dr. Madden held membership in the College of Pastoral Supervision and Psychotherapy, the Association of Professional Chaplains, the American Association of Pastoral Counselors, and the Association for Clinical Pastoral Education. A memorial service will be held at St. Charles Avenue Baptist Church, New Orleans, on Saturday, June 15 at 10:00am, Dr. Robert E. Pearce officiating.
