She was born to the late Alfred C. and Irene Pasley Miranne, March 19, 1921, in New Orleans, LA. Irene had three siblings, Alfred Jr., Donald (Fr. Paul Miranne O.S.B.) and Muriel. Irene graduated with a B.A. from Ursuline College in 1941 and taught English and Social Studies in the Jefferson Parish School District at Ella Dolhonde, Metairie Grammar, and Airline Park Schools. She married the late Eric Kenneth Stokes in April of 1950, and they lived together in Metairie, LA. before relocating to Houston, Texas in 1968 with their five children. Irene retired from teaching in 1967 and continued to make a difference in the lives of future generations, as a loving mother, grandmother and great- grandmother. She was an avid sports fan, captain of her high school basketball team, and loved baseball and the New Orleans Saints. She loved traveling, and made many visits to Europe with family and friends. Irene adored Paris and the French countryside, and often spoke fondly about her memories in France. The mother of five children, Irene is preceded in death by her eldest daughter Karen Marie and is survived by Kathy Newsom and her husband Frank, Perry Stokes and his wife Adela, Donna Shour and her husband Bill, and Ellen Norman and her husband Wesley. She also is survived by eight grandchildren and six great- grandchildren. Visitation will be held at 9 a.m. followed by funeral service at 11 a.m. Monday at E.J. Fielding Funeral Home in Covington, LA. Interment to directly follow at St. Joseph Abbey Cemetery, St. Benedict, LA.
