Please go to http://usgwarchives.net/la/sttammany/obits/dateobits/2013/st1309.htm and click to view list of photos. ========== Edward Lee Beeson, Jr, Ph.D., 85 years of age, of New Orleans, LA, passed peacefully at home in the presence of his loving wife, Louise Beeson, née Colledge, on the morning of September 20th, 2013. He was born in Bartow, FL on March 9th, 1928 to Cecil Jenkins Beeson and Edward Lee Beeson. He graduated with a Ph.D. in Physics from Georgia Tech University, served in the U.S. Navy and fought in the Korean War on a Destroyer class vessel. He retired after long service in the U.S. Naval Reserve at the rank of Commander. He went on to become a tenured professor of Physics at the University of New Orleans, served as Chairman of the Physics Department, and retired from teaching after 24 years. Dr. Beeson then worked in the Underwater Acoustics Division at the U.S. Naval Oceanographic Office, retiring there after fifteen years. An avid sportsman, Dr. Beeson enjoyed hunting and fishing, and was an enthusiast of auto racing, guns, repairing things, working with his hands, and the works of J.R.R. Tolkien. He is survived by his wife Louise, his three sons, Benjamin, Bradley, and Matthew Beeson, as well as four grandchildren, Katherine, William, Emily, and Mikayla Beeson. The family will hold an open informal remembrance in Shell Beach, LA on Thursday, September 26, 2013 at 12:00 noon. DIRECTIONS: Take I-610 toward Slidell. Take the Chalmette/Little Woods exit and go towards Chalmette (8 miles) to Judge Perez Drive. Turn left onto Judge Perez Drive and go 8 miles to Hwy. 46 (blinking light). Go 8 miles on Hwy. 46 to 4- way stop, which is Hwy. 46 E, take a left. Look for the Reggio water tower just before the 4-way stop. Go 4 miles (refinery on the left) to Maple Street, which is the first left past the refinery. You will see Ft. Beauregard at that point.
