A native of New Orleans, she was the daughter of the late Antoinette Rita Orlando Mussle and Frank Xavier Mussle. She was a devoted wife to Thomas David “Dave” Kenney for 45 years and loving mother to their four children: Shannon Lowry (Paul); Shawnn Madere (Scott); Thomas David Kenney II (Kristen); and, Derek Kenney (Kristen). She relished her role as grandmother to her seven grandchildren: Ethan and Griffin Lowry; Zachary, Elliot and Abigail Madere; and, Greyson and Jackson Kenney; and anxiously awaited the arrival of her eighth grandchild in December. Esther was the belle of McDonogh No. 28 Kindergarten in 1953. She attended St. Leo the Great elementary school and graduated from St. Joseph Academy in 1965. Esther graduated from Marinello-Comer Beauty School and Marinello Advanced Hair Design Institute in New Orleans in 1966. She gave up being a beautician to raise her children. In the early 1980s, she opened and operated an antique store, The Pickett Fence, on Oak Street. In 1983, Esther, her husband Dave and children relocated to Thibodaux, Louisiana, where she made many cherished friends. Her great passion for art prompted Esther to open The Acorn, an arts and crafts store in Thibodaux, with a dear friend, Daphne Palliser. There and at every opportunity, she shared her God-given talent to paint with family and countless friends and acquaintances, as well as with anyone who wanted to learn. For the past 16 years, Esther has lived in Mandeville with her husband Dave, where she was a parishioner of Our Lady of the Lake Roman Catholic Church. Ever an art enthusiast, Esther learned framing as an employee of Gordon’s of Mandeville and started a home decorating business, Deck-It-Out, with another dear friend, Suzanne Sciortino. With every ounce of her being, Esther loved her husband, children and grandchildren. Her family was her highest priority, and she was their Number 1 Honey. Esther was active, outgoing and always ready to make new friends. She loved to laugh. She was unbelievably creative and had an incredible knack for decorating and design. She was also a fantastic cook and baker and took pleasure in hosting large gatherings of family and friends. She leaves behind her brother, Ciro Frank Mussle, and sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law: Paula Tridico, Kathleen Ritter (Steve), Peter Michael Kenney, Jr. (Bonnie), Kenneth Kenney (Marybeth) and Jeannine Heidingsfelder (Eric) and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and caring friends. Relatives and friends of the family are invited to attend the Funeral Mass on Saturday, October 26, 2013 at St. Peter Catholic Church, 125 East 19th Avenue, Covington, LA 70433 at 12:00 noon with visitation at the church from 10:00 a.m. until Mass time. Interment will follow in St. Joseph Abbey Cemetery in Covington. In lieu of flowers, the family requests contributions in memory of Esther to the Mayo Clinic’s Udall Center of Excellence in Parkinson’s Disease Research. ===================
