Gregory Vance Core, Sr. passed away on Sunday, November 3, 2013 at the age of 
52.

Loving father of Gregory “Vance” Core, Jr. (wife Melody Blackwell Core), 
Meredith Cathryn Core, and Ken Warren Core. Son of Carol Byrd Core and Warren 
Vance Core (wife Linda). Brother of Michael Smith, Mark Smith, and Craig Core. 
Grandfather of Jaxon Vance Core. Greg will be remembered as a great ambassador 
for the PGA and the game of golf. Greg’s passion for the game of golf and 
passing on knowledge to students of all ages was unmatched in the New Orleans 
and Baton Rouge area. Greg gave over 35,000 golf lessons in his 27+ year career 
as a golf professional.

His community involvement included committee or leadership roles with the Fore! 
Kids foundation, The First Tee, and the Tiger Woods Foundation of New Orleans 
to name a few. Greg was awarded Gulf States PGA Professional of the Year twice 
and held every elected office in both the Louisiana Chapter PGA and the Gulf 
States Section PGA, to include President from 1998-2000. He was awarded the 
Bill Strausbaugh Award for work in the Louisiana/Mississippi area on four 
different occasions.

Greg will be remembered by many as a great teacher and mentor, but will be 
remembered by those close to him as a proud and loving Father/Grandfather. 

Relatives and friends of the family are invited to attend the funeral services 
on Friday, November 8, 2013 at E.J. Fielding Funeral Home, 2260 W. 21st Avenue, 
Covington, LA 70433 at 2:00 PM with visitation on Friday from 12:00 noon until 
service time.

Interment will follow in the Core Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests contributions in memory of Greg Core to 
be made to the Fore! Kids Foundation(11005 Lapalco Blvd, Avondale, LA 70094) or 
the PGA Foundation (c/o Gulf States PGA) (3115 6th St., Metairie, LA 70002). 
Both organizations promote the game of golf to youth in the GNO Area.
